2018 review, and looking ahead

I’ve been trying for a week to write a recap of 2018. There were a lot of wonderful things that happened:

I had 3 designs published by the Moda Bake Shop.
I started my own design company (check out my online shop here)
I got my very own longarm quilting machine.
I talked to Pat Sloan on the AP&Q podcast!

I want to, and have, celebrated the good things (I drank lots of bubbly wine). But 2018 brought more bad things than I ever thought I’d have to face, and it feels inauthentic to ignore them.

I lost a pregnancy. I lost 2 liters of blood during the emergency surgery that saved my life. I got cancer, faced chemo, got a partially collapsed lung, but survived everything. I’m now 7 months clear (physically) but there’s still a lot of work to be done to heal mentally and emotionally.

To all my friends and family that thrived in 2018, I wish you all that happiness and more in 2019. For me, it’s enough to say I survived.

With all that said, I’m looking forward to the blank slate that we have this year. I’ve got lots of fun pattern designs in the works. There will be swaps, contests, giveaways. I will begin taking customer quilts in for longarm quilting, I’ve had a few requests for t-shirt quilts, and I’m excited to see how my business will expand and grow. And of course, there will be plenty of bubbly wine.

  1. You can do this! I did! Hang in there and each day is such a gift. The “ lucky” thing about cancer is we reevaluate our lives, we stop to smell the roses.drink that bubbly..hug harder..reach higher…just so many things. It’s a chance to live the best life we can…you got this!
