February Recap

Time has gotten away from me (I have a toddler, so I never really have a firm grasp on my time), but February has been a good, busy month.

I started off with a finish and I have a second finish to share!

O Christmas Tree

This quilt is called “O Christmas Tree” and I started it about 10 years ago as part of a block swap at Quilting Around the World. I got all the blocks put together pretty quickly, but it took until I attended a QATW quilt camp until I purchased and added borders (there are 4 of them, halfway through I regretted my decision). Then it took another year and another camp to get backing and get this quilt basted.

I started quilting it on my domestic machine, but I wasn’t really loving the look of it. Every year, I would get it out and tell myself that this Christmas would be the Christmas I finally finished it. It’s actually one of my longest standing Christmas traditions. But once I got Minerva, I knew I needed to longarm quilt this top.

This was chosen for the 2019 UFO Challenge at QATW, so at the beginning of the month I sat down with my seam ripper and undid the quilting I had done. Thankfully, it wasn’t that much. I loaded it on Minerva along with some cuddle fabric for the backing and cotton batting. I used the same swirly pantograph that I used in my Grammy’s Staircase quilt and I adore how it turned out. I made some cute zipper bags for my nieces who turned 12 (!) yesterday. I followed a tutorial here – and it was so clear and well written, I had no problems. I haven’t sewn a zipper in ages and didn’t even realize I had a zipper foot for my machine until I googled it, and these went together in a snap.

Purple sparkles for one and Slytherin for the other: sums them up pretty well.

I also took some time this month to format my PDF patterns for print. The Quilted Cow is a fabulous quilt shop located in Branson West, MO and every Wednesday night they do a Facebook live sale called “party in your pajamas.” They were looking for new designers to showcase, I’m a new designer – so now they’re showing off both my patterns and quilts!

((I meant to write more, but my tiny human has hit something on my laptop and I need to restart, so I’ll end this here and be back soon with more!))
