It’s no secret that once I get an idea for a quilt, I usually need to see it made right away. It should come as no surprise then, that I tend to jump the gun with some projects. Each of the quilts I’ve submitted to Moda Bake Shop, I’ve had that “need-to-make-this-now” itch. So I end up making each quilt twice.
The first time, it was first project jitters – what if my ideas and sketches didn’t translate to actual fabric? So I needed to make a test quilt to make sure it worked (it did) and see if I could write up the pattern (I could).
The second time, it was a quick project – the Pocketed Runner – and a simple sketch didn’t really do it justice. And it worked up super quick, so I was able to take a picture of the finished project to use as my submission sketch.
This third time now, I really have no excuse. I knew I loved the quilt and I was going to make it even if it wasn’t selected for Moda Bake Shop. (Well of course I loved the quilt – I don’t think I would’ve submitted it if I didn’t want to make it!) I didn’t hear back immediately (and I mean like, within 5 minutes), so I got some fabrics I loved (Porthsmouth by Minick & Simpson) and got to work.
Merrily I stitched on my way. And then a week after I started, I got fabric from Moda. Even better – it was more Minick & Simpson fabric! Good thing this top stitches up fast – they’re big blocks (18” finished) so just 12 blocks makes a generously sized lap quilt. It has been a lot of fun watching this one come together, I’m excited to make it again!
