If you’re finding my blog from the Moda Bake Shop Summer Quilt-A-Long, welcome! I’m so glad to have you here.
I’m thrilled to be sharing another block pattern on the Moda Bake Shop. My Summer at the Shore block was inspired by Vinalhaven, ME. My husband’s family has visited there each summer for decades and I’m thrilled to be included in that tradition.

My father-in-law’s birthday is the Fourth of July, so we generally try to travel to Vinalhaven then. We went two years ago to celebrate his 75th birthday with the whole family. There was a parade in town, a ride on a lobster boat, and then fireworks that night.

It was a wonderful day and I wanted to commemorate the fireworks in a quilt block. After a couple variations in EQ8, Summer Sparklers was born.
I knew Origami by Janet Clare was perfect for Vinalhaven.
If folded corners aren’t your favorite thing (I used to avoid them, too!) I wrote a blog post here to share a few hints and tricks to make them quicker and easier.
And of course, I needed to play around with color variations. Wouldn’t Summer Sparklers make a great quilt in Ombre Confetti?
I hope you enjoy this block as much as I do. I’m looking forward to enjoying the rest of this quilt a long and making another trip to Vinalhaven.

Loved seeing your block in a full quilt setting and you are right it looks sensational in the Ombre Confetti! Definitely adding this to my to do list.
Thank you so much! I’d love to see how it turns out 🙂
What a nice memory these summer day bring and commemorating the memory with a block is great idea. I think it would look great in any 2 color combo!!!
I love this block. I made 5 of them for my Seashore quilt. Thank you for sharing it.
